what is Reiki?
HEALING FOR THE MIND, BODY AND SOUL
As with most things in life Reiki must be experienced to be appreciated and understood.
Reiki can help us cope by encouraging relaxation and bringing balance to both mind and emotions.
Benefits reported by clients and patients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of wellbeing.
Reiki encourages and supports positive personal choices such as improving diet, taking more exercise, devoting time for rest or leisure activities.
Some of the Benefits of Reiki:
- Supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself
- Balances the organs and glands and their functions within the body
- Cleanses the body of toxins
- Strengthens the immune system
- Adjusts itself according to the needs of the recipient
- Supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself
- Re-establishes mental well being and equilibrium
- Vitalises both the body and soul
- Enhances the ability to meditate
The origin of Reiki can be traced back to ancient Tibet thousands of years ago. Mikao Usui, as a Buddhist academic, began a search to find the secret to the Buddha’s ‘Healing Touch’. He found the ancient texts that described the healing techniques used by the Buddha, however while the texts described the manipulation of energy flow it wasn’t until he spent time in meditation on top of Mount Kuri Yama in Japan that he experienced the energy itself. After working with the energy for a number of years he developed the 5 principles of Reiki which, when practised together and regularly, improve mindfulness. He realised that to truly heal a person must work on their emotional, mental and spiritual levels. Working on the physical level alone may not always prevent illness from returning.
- The five principles are:
- Just for today, I will not worry
- Just for today, I will not be angry
- Just for today, I will be grateful
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly
- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing

What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki feels a little different for each person but it is very gentle and non invasive. You may experience a soft tingling sensation in different parts of your body or you may feel a sensation of warmth or coolness. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation or even feel as if you are floating. Some people experience colours with their eyes closed. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki energy and it may be different for you each time you are have a session.
